Shoppers looking to save on essentials will now have a reason to smile.

Fairprice Group (FPG) announced on 27 November 2023 a slew of initiatives to cut your daily as costs continue to rise.

For starters, it will be absorbing the one per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) increase taking effect in January 2024 for 500 essential goods in the first six months of the year.

The GST will rise from eight to nine per cent in January 2024.

The discount will be offered on frequently bought national brand and housebrand items such as fresh fruits, vegetables and meat, staples, dairy, paper products, detergents, and household cleaners.

The discount will be available across all FPG supermarket retail formats, including FairPrice online.

This practice continues FPG’s tradition of supporting the community, especially the vulnerable, during GST adjustments. The group previously offered discounts when the GST was raised in 1994, 2007, and 2023.

FPG will also be extending their existing Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, and Community Health Assist Scheme Blue discount schemes for an additional year, from January to December 2024.

“It is clear that in the current economic environment, our customers are watching their spending more than ever.

“Providing a one per cent discount to offset the GST increase and extending our FairPrice PG, MG and CHAS Blue discount schemes are just a few strategies we have in place to ensure that the community gets the support it needs to keep daily essentials within reach.

“FPG will continue to work hard to help customers make every dollar count so as to maintain their quality of life and feed their families well,” said FPG Group CEO Vipul Chawla.
